Stomatepia mongo, in its native range known as the mongo, is a critically endangered species of fish in the cichlid family. It is endemic to Lake Barombi Mbo in western Cameroon.
The female protect their eggs and newly born young in their mouths. In the Lake Barombi Mbo a total of 11 endemic cichlids exists, all seriously threatened by pollution and sedimentation due to human activities.
